Written by Laurie, at ages 11 and 12. My Aunt had some of the poems published in her local newspaper, here but got the age I wrote them incorrectly. I wasn't 13 when I wrote them, I was actually younger, about 11 or 12. I have always been "technically disadvantaged", shall I say, and though I've worked with computers of course, I didn't even buy my own personal computer until just a few months ago--April of 2009! I certainly didn't have the knowledge and insight to see into the future, where smart phone, I pods, video games, and tiny laptop computers would be the norm....I just wasn't geared towards that as a kid, and in the early 80s, almost nothing was computerized, so I didn't have any "hints". I do remember playing "Pong" though. :) My Aunt is also very intuitive though, so perhaps she had this poem published as "proof" to myself and others, that this was indeed written when I say it was. See the actual newspaper page of my poems, including the one about computers, by clicking above on "here".

A gleam of light
Catches your eye.
It swirls and bends.
Its trillions of colors follow.
The graphics awe
your numb mind
and then catches
you up and takes you.
It has captured your soul. It is
man's selfish invention....
the computer age is here.
The year.....
2000.
By Laurie Macasaet, age 11 or 12
Written between 1981-1982.
Purple Mountains
Sometimes in a very great while,
the low hanging dense fog lifts its
murky veil up and rises like a stage curtain into the heavens.
Then you can see it, the pure beauty
of....the other side.
Purple mountains tinted with blue.
Sometimes if the sun is right,
they stand like giants.
The piercing rays are the only thing that penetrates the dreaded prison wall of fog.
Why do we stare longingly at it?
Why is this place forbidden to us?
The year is unknown, and this place is in our dreams.
